Lucas County CROP Walk

Lucas County CROP Hunger Walk
Sunday, October 13

This year’s Lucas County CROP Hunger Walk will start at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton (corner of Main Street and Roland Avenue). Registration is 1:00 pm and Step-Off is 1:30 pm. CROP – “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty” – is a fundraiser for Church World Service (CWS), which partners with relief organizations (including Lutheran World Relief) to feed the hungry in crisis situations throughout the world.

Of the monies raised through this walk, 25% will return right here to Lucas County. The Interchurch Council Ministry Center serves as a food bank for those in our area who struggle against hunger. Each year the Ministry Center serves hundreds of families, providing thousands of meals for those who need a helping hand.

This year the walk is being held in conjunction with “Chariton Cares,” a Chamber/Main Street initiative that is being supported by the Interchurch Council to clean up and spruce up our community. We invite you to join us for the walk by choosing from either a 4 mile route (which loops from the United Methodist Church around Ilion, Hy-Vee Road, Court, and then back to the church) or a shorter walk around the square. Choose whichever length is most comfortable to you!

We would just love for everybody and anybody to walk! There will be rest stops along the way, and a “sag wagon” if you need it. If you would like to sponsor a walker or otherwise make a contribution, please contact Patti Bisgard (641-774-8298) or Ronda Morrett (641-774-4890).
