Today we will celebrate Ascension Day (May 30) and hear the story of Jesus ascending into heaven, back to the right hand of the Father. Having descended from heaven to become God in flesh, fulfilling scripture and accomplishing our salvation, Jesus now ascends back from whence he came, bearing our humanity into the presence of God forever. No longer are things in heaven and life on earth far apart, and no longer is the suffering and weakness of our own flesh far off from God’s own life. Both the reading from Acts and from Luke are written by the same author and are parts of the whole.
The new home communion kits, purchased with Denny Goetsch memorial funds, will be blessed during worship at First Lutheran and will be ready for both the pastor and lay people to take Holy Communion to those unable to attend worship.
